This chart shows the number of road deaths per 100,000 motor vehicles across different global regions. The most striking pattern is the much higher rate of fatalities in developing regions compared with wealthier parts of the world.
Africa has by far the highest rate, with road deaths per vehicle many times higher than in any other region.
