The pie chart shows the ethnic breakdown of solo Team GB Summer Olympic gold medallists from 2000 to 2016. White/European athletes account for 78.6%, broadly reflecting the UK’s majority-white population. However, Black/African athletes (14.3%) and multiracial athletes (7.1%) appear proportionally overrepresented relative to their share of the national population, particularly in athletics and boxing. By contrast, British South Asians—despite forming a significant minority—are absent from this gold-medal group.

There are also differences by sport: Black and mixed-race athletes are more prominent in sprinting, middle-distance running, and boxing, while white athletes are strongly represented in cycling, rowing, sailing, and equestrian events. A notable mixed-race champion is Jessica Ennis-Hill, whose heptathlon gold symbolised modern British diversity in athletics.
